Use the data

Everything on the map is open. You can view it in Google Earth, load it into your own GIS, or read the raw feeds.

One link brings the whole map into Google Earth: hamarihawa.org/hamarihawa.kml. Each layer can be switched on and off and refreshes on its own schedule:

How to open it

What about Google Maps?

Google Maps doesn't let outside sources add live layers, and the Google Maps app only shows Google's own data. Google's My Maps can import a KML file, but it keeps a copy that never refreshes, and it allows at most 2,000 places per layer, which a busy day of fires goes over. The pollution sites fit well, so import hamarihawa.org/kml/sources.kml into My Maps. For anything live, use Google Earth.

QGIS, ArcGIS, Civil 3D and other tools

These are standard KML files, so any GIS or CAD tool that reads KML can use them. The individual layers are:

LayerLinkUpdated
Fires/fires.kml?hours=24 (also 48, 168)Every 15 min
City air/kml/air.kmlEvery 30 min
Traffic and industry NO₂/kml/traffic.kmlDaily
Haze and satellite photo/kml/satellite.kmlDaily
Pollution sites/kml/sources.kmlWhen we rebuild the sources

JSON feeds

The site itself runs on these. They can be read from any web page (CORS is open).
